Barrel Oak Winery
If you get tired of the hammocks at Three Fox, pop over to Barrel Oak. This winery has one of the best tasting rooms on the Virginia wine trail and designed for all day lounging. Decorated with warm woods and stacked barrels the lofted room regularly hosts live music and is almost always packed with visitors and their pups. Outside you’ll find plenty of picnic tables and fire pits perfect for winter tastings - just ask a staff member and they’ll give you a stack of wood and some matches to build your own. Open every day, wine flights are only $3. Choose from a flight of sweet wines, including the “Chocolate Lab,” a a fruity Chambourcin infused with cocoa nibs, or a drier flight featuring cabernet sauvignon and a reserve viognier. (3623 Grove Lane, Delaplane, VA; 540-364-6402)
