James Bond's Drinking Habits From 1962 to the Present

In Skyfall, the newest James Bond flick that hits theaters November 9, our favorite British agent has given up his signature drink. Instead of a martini (shaken, not stirred), 007 drinks one thing, and one thing only — beer. Heineken dropped $45 million for the movie-long endorsement, a move that 82% of you felt was rather uncool, according to our recent poll.

Nevertheless, that’s what Bond is quaffing these days. However, prior to the switch, Daniel Craig’s character drank more martinis per film than any other actor playing the part. The Economist has a handy chart, plotting the number of sips each actor downed, on average.

Looking at the numbers, you can see drinking in James Bond movies (and movies in general?) has risen over the past 50 years. Sean Connery and Roger Moore’s consumption-per-flick is dwarfed by Craig’s, but also noticeably less than that of Timothy Dalton or Pierce Brosnan.

In honor of the upcoming Skyfall release, we’re embedding the poll again here. What do you think: should the filmmakers have stayed true to author Ian Fleming’s libation of choice? Or has it become a boy-meets-beer world. Let us know by voting or adding a comment below.

Heineken for Bond: Love it or Hate it?

Hate it. Martini is Bond's drink; don't mess with tradition.0%
Love it. (Ok, don't mind it.) Beer is on the upswing.0%
