In 2011, unorthodox Oregon brewery Rogue Ales teamed up with Portland’s VooDoo Doughnut to release Bacon Maple Ale, a brown ale our reviewer recently described as having a scent “exactly like a campfire mixed with a hint of maple syrup.” Though some beer lovers have called it as an abomination that tastes nothing like actual beer, the pink-labeled collab has been immensely popular, overall.
Now Rogue has done it again, “colliding” with VooDoo for a second time to release Chocolate, Peanut Butter & Banana Ale. Available at most Rogue Ales Public Houses and also via online ordering here, the fruit beer is designed after the donut shop’s “Memphis Mafia” treat. That creation is made of fried dough filled with banana chunks and topped with chocolate frosting, peanut butter, peanuts and chocolate chips. It’s a tribute to Elvis Presley, whose entourage had the same name and who famously adored peanut butter and banana sandwiches.
Brewmaster John Maier, who has been a Rogue brewer for 25 years, says on BeerAdvocate, “I designed the beer to taste as much like the doughnut as possible!” The beer includes banana and peanut extracts, as well as chocolate, and has an ABV of 5.3%. It comes in large-format, 25.4-oz., pink-painted bottles, similar to the Maple Bacon Ale, and runs $13 each.
