On Thursday, January 12, the town of Breckenridge, CO, again broke the record for the world’s longest shot ski. Held during Ullr Fest and sponsored by Breckenridge Distillery, The town’s 2017 record beat the most recent record of Wasatch Brewery’s 2016 record set in Park City, UT.
Starting at 3:45 pm that afternoon, the town put together a 1,997-foot ski with 1,234 people. That beat the Wasatch record of 1,191 people back on October 22. This is the fifth year Breckenridge has hosted the event and broken the record. Other cities have temporarily broken this record, but once again Breckenridge has come through on top.
The shot ski was comprised of 420 individual skis that were bolted together by participants. Breckenridge Distillery staff then poured 1,234 ounces of Hot Box Mountain Shot into cups mounted on the skis. Hot Box Mountain is a cinnamon whiskey that is 66.6% ABV.
Ullr (rhymes with ruler) Fest is a weekend festival held in Breckenridge every January that honors the Norse god of snow and snow activities. The shot ski is actually the beginning of a three-day weekend festival with many indoor and outdoor events. To learn more or to participate next year, visit GoBreck.com.
