President Obama announced last Friday that all regulations on Cuban rum and cigars have officially been lifted. This means anyone who travels to Cuban can bring as much rum and/or cigars back as they'd like!
The regulation lift comes after the United States and Cuba announced normalized relations in 2014. Since then, travel has been easier to Cuba, and as of January 2015, Americans were allowed to bring up to $100 in rum and cigars back to the states in their carry-ons. In reference to the regulations lift, President Obama noted, "the progress of the last two years, bolstered by today's action, should remind the world of what's possible when we look to the future together." A future filled with delicious Cuban rum? Sounds great.
If you're waiting for a catch, there really isn't one. As long as you don't plan on reselling them, in theory, you can fill 50 suitcases with rum and 50 with cigars, and besides the insane luggage fees, you're golden. For those of us that don't have any plans to travel to Cuba, make friends with someone who is going and have them share some of the goods, because you won't be able to purcahse any of this stuff online or in American stores.
