On the Sunland Farm, just outside of Modjadjiskloof in the Limpopo province of South Africa, stands the famous Sunland Baobab tree. One of the widest Baobabs on the continent with a circumference of over 100 feet, the tree is large enough to house a bar, as well as a wine cellar! Up to 15 lucky patrons at a time can be comfortably seated within the bar, which was founded in 1993. There they can sip on drinks while perusing the historical artifacts that line the shelves of the Pub Tree or toss darts at the board hanging on the inside wall of the tree.
The tree is made of two large trunks with a natural hallway connecting both parts. It is naturally hollow, as Baobabs get as they age; it was not artificially carved out to make room for the bar. Carbon dating puts the tree at less than 2,000 years old, though some reports claim it is up to 6,000 years old.
Understandably, the tree is a major draw for tourism. If you happen to spend a little too much time at the tree bar, there are accommodations for up to 20 guests on the farm, so you won’t have venture far to rest up for another round.
