Good things come in threes, right? Well, if they didn’t before, they do now, especially for the beer nerds amongst us who take joy in geeking out on the HBO series Game of Thrones.
Based on the runaway success the two brews they’ve already rolled out that were loosely based on the hit fantasy drama, Brewery Ommegang is going for a hat-trick. Come next spring, when the program returns for its fourth season, the Cooperstown, NY-based beer-maker will introduce a third beer in this ongoing series. This one draws inspiration from the show's House Targaryen.
The new brew, Fire and Blood Red Ale, comes on the heels of Take the Black Stout’s rollout. That dark-as-night elixir, of course, was preceded by Iron Throne Blonde Ale, which was released last spring.
Bottles of Fire and Blood will sport three different labels. Each one will depict one of Game of Thrones' three dragons. Packaging options aside, the ale itself is a completely different animal than its two predecessors.
According Ommegang this latest installment to the series has rye and Spelt wheat on the grain bill, is hopped with Styrian Golding and German Tettnang hops, and receives a late addition of ancho chilies for additional complexity and some heat to remind you about those dragons.
