As he was doing research while organizing this fall’s Colorado Distillers Festival, designer Josh Mishell came across the Alcohol and Tobacco Bureau’s list of all licensed distilleries currently operating in the United States. Wanting an easier way to sort through the 1006 operations, he wrangled the data into something pretty useful: a Google map.
Even more impressive is that Mishell says he created the interactive visualization on a Friday night while tossing back pear gin and tonics. Click over to zoom and pan through the map. You could use it to find distillers in your backyard and plan visits, or even to schedule an epic cross country road trip where you stop and sip at a distillery in every state you drive through. Looks like even Wyoming has several distilleries, which is more than you can say about that state's escalator population (there are two). Fun times, thanks Josh!
