Charlie Papazian and a young relative at the festival
The idea of pairing beer with food — something previously reserved for wine — was one of the “radical” concepts that helped the American craft beer movement gain steam in its early days. Over the weekend, the Brewers Association’s annual food and beer pairing festival known as Savor showcased these matchups. Brewers Association president and founder Charlie Papazian was in attendence, along with many other craft brewing stars.
The event was held in NYC for the first time, and although the venue was nowhere near as spectacular as Savor’s usual home in the National Building Museum in DC, the party rocked just as hard. Beer flowed from more than 75 craft breweries around the country, and a lot of it actually went quite well with the food it was meant to go along with.
