7 Spirits Made With Hops: An Unlikely but Trendy Match |
3) Hophead Vodka
90 Proof; $30
San Francisco’s Anchor Distilling Company is releasing Hophead vodka on September 1. Distilled entirely from two types of dried hops from Washington State’s Yakima Valley, the vodka has a fresh, hoppy taste with just a touch of bitterness on the nose. There are also floral, funky notes on the side, and the spirit finishes with a slight cannabis flavor. It ends up very similar to a gin, as the hops are macerated in neutral grain spirits before being distilled, just like the start of the gin-making process. Along those lines, Hophead vodka can be used as a base for gin drinks, such as martinis.
