If you were away from the Internets yesterday, you might have missed President Barack Obama holding his first-ever AMA on reddit. During the “ask me anything” online session — which garnered nearly 23,000 comments and briefly caused the whole site to go down — he answered questions about the Citizens United decision, space exploration, war and other presidential topics. But most interesting to us was this tidbit: he promised to release the recipe for White House Honey Ale.
Redditor silent1mezzo went straight for the jugular, asking, “What's the recipe for the White House's beer?”
President Obama replied, “It will be out soon! I can tell from first hand experience, it is tasty.”
An online petition requesting the recipe was started by some intrepid homebrewers on August 20, after Obama handed out a bottle at a campaign stop in Ohio. We first became aware of the fact that the White House was into home brewing back in 2011. White House Honey Ale comes in both a light and dark style and uses honey from Michelle Obama’s onsite apiary.
Now that you know the recipe is coming, time to make friends with your favorite homebrewer in preparation for getting a sip. We know that’s what we’ll be doing!
