Half-Ton "Transformer" Wine Rack Combines Art, Mechanics, Style & Fun

by The Drink Nation on Jun 25, 2012 in Culture

For more than three decades, Hasbro’s Transformers have captivated the hearts of children (and more recently, adults — thanks Megan Fox) around the world. An enterprising artist in Phoenix, AZ recently combined his fascination with the shapeshifting machines and his knack for working with automobile parts to create a one-off wine rack, the likes of which has never been seen before.

The six-foot-tall, Megatron-esque statue holds up to 32 of your best vintages in different positions — place soon-to-drink bottles upright along his chest, and store rare finds horizontally in the automatic “gun” barrels on his arms. Blue LED lights are wired into the sculpture, making this easily the centerpiece of any house party or gathering.

Parts from disparate cars were cleaned and neutralized before being assembled into this gentle giant, which the artist is selling on Craigslist for a cool $7,000. Not for everyone, to be sure, but if you had the dough and the space, would you go for it?
