Get a Buzz on While Getting Buzzed with Apothic's Cold Brew Red Wine

by Alexander Frane on Mar 20, 2018 in Wine

The age old question of whether it’s late enough to still drink coffee or early enough to drink wine has been answered with a resounding “yes” to both, as California winery Apothic Wines is releasing a cold-brew infused red wine. The red blend gets a touch of cold brew coffee added to it, and is slowly stirred for about a day just before bottling. The tasting noted provided describe it as having “toasted oak, red fruit, and,” of course, “coffee.”

“I realized that many of the characteristics in cold brew coffee and red wine naturally complement each other,” said Apothic Winemaker in a press release. “This led us to experiment with a few blends, eventually leading to the seamless creation of Apothic Brew, which brings together red fruit notes and subtle mocha essences of cold brew."

The wine is set to be released on April 1, but it’s no April Fool’s joke--it really is red wine infused with coffee. Still, those looking for jitters shouldn’t get too excited, as the wine reportedly has less caffeine than a cup of decaf coffee.
