Coca-Cola is Releasing Its First Alcoholic Drink (In Japan)

by The Drink Nation on Mar 14, 2018 in Culture

Coca-Cola is branching out from soda and releasing its first alcoholic beverage — but there's a catch.

According to the BBC, he product is only available in Japan and is made with a spirit unique to the country called shochu, which is a lighter spirit that only clocks in at between 3% and 8% in volume. The soda is called Chu-Hi, which is an easily quaffable and canned sparkling cocktail that is being sold throughout Japan, and it comes in flavors like grapefruit, peach, and lemon. Coke is getting into the Chu-Hi game with its own cocktail, though unfortunately, it will only be sold throughout Japan.

That being said, we can keep our hopes up, considering that alcoholic sodas and coolers like Bacardi Breezers and Smirnoff Ice were huge trends in the past — so hopefully we can upgrade from those and get a Coca-Cola alcoholic soda in the U.S. before too long.
