Oskar Blues Announces Inaugural Burning Can Festival in Austin, TX

To help celebrate the grand opening of the new Oskar Blues Brewery in Austin, Texas, the brewery is throwing a big musical party. The brewery will debut the Austin Burning Can Beer Fest on Saturday, April 23. Headlining the event will be Drive-By Truckers, the band’s first Austin show in over a year.

Burning Can, which has been held in Lyons, CO, for many years, is considered one of the best beer events in the country. OB is now bringing this fun festival to the partiers of Austin, one of the country’s best music cities.

For those unfamiliar with the festival, Burning Can is part beer festival, part music festival. Guests will enjoy over 30 craft breweries from around the country offering samples along with plenty of delicious food trucks and music by Tameca Jones, Whiskey Shivers, and, of course, Drive-By Truckers. Tickets are on sale now.

New this year is The Beer Relay, a trail running race and beer drinking event. It is a four-hour competition with teams of two and four runners. Runners will complete as many 5K laps as possible within the four-hour time period. If runners choose to drink an Oskar Blues beer prior to their lap, the team will get two-minutes deducted from their lap time. The team with the most laps wins. Teams can choose which Oskar Blues beer they get to drink and the beers are complimentary. Oskar Blues prizes go the winners. All ages are welcome to run the race, but only those 21 and over will get the beer drinking minute deductions.

Tickets for the event are $35 per person in advance and $40 at the door. VIP tickets are available and include an hour early entry, a SWAG bag, and exclusive amenities like VIP restrooms, water stations, seating, and shade. VIP tickets are $65 per person in advance and $70 at the door. Concert-only tickets are $25 in advance, $30 at the door. The Beer Relay is a separate event with additional pricing. All tickets can be purchased online on the Burning Can website.

The festival will take place at Walter E. Long Park in Austin, with the race starting at 10 AM and the music will begin at 3 PM.
