Yuengling, Philly Beer Scene Magazine, DrinkPhilly.com and the Draught Horse Pub are glad to announce the last Homebrewing Contest of the year!

On Tuesday December 7th at 8PM we will be hosting another fun and tasty homebrewing contest. The selected beer style for this event is "BROWN ALES". Only Brown Ales and variations of it will be allowed to compete. 

Prizes for the top 5 brewers include: Tours of the Yuengling brewery, shirts, hats, beer, gift cards and more!

  7. Interesting fact about you: I just recently moved to Philadelphia from North Carolina and have been completely blown away by the great beer scene. I started home brewing about a year ago and have really enjoyed experimenting with unique ingredients, especially southern ones.  My most unique beer thus far has been a Pecan Pie Barley wine made with roasted Pecans, Vanilla and Karo Syrup that turned out really delicious.

  3. Beer Description: London-Style Brown Ale (or Southern English Brown Ale). I added Jack Daniel's Whiskey and vanilla beans to the secondary fermenter for additional flavors. S.O.B. is a warming, malty-sweet London-Style Brown Ale with smoky, chocolaty flavors from the use of specialty grains. It has hints of vanilla and bourbon from ingredients added during fermentation. ABV- 6.1%.

  3. Beer Description: In 1621, the surviving Mayflower pilgrims celebrated a good harvest in the New World. The feast was a mashup of whatever they could cook: wild fowl, leeks, pumpkin, and even lobster made the list. According to legend, the pilgrims invited some natives to the table who helped them survive the terrible winter. Today, we brew this beer in the spirit of giving thanks: for what we have, and for what we give to the future. Cornucopia has plenty going on - it's made with organic pumpkin and sweet potatoes, five kinds of barley, honey, molasses, philly-grown hops and leeks, and holiday spices. Carbonated with brown sugar. ABV 5.7%"

Beer Description: This beer is one part American Brown Ale, and one part American IPA.  Fusing together a slightly roasty, malty grain bill, with a citrusy, piny hop bill gives this beer several dimensions of flavor.  Living up to its name, there is a copious hop character in the beginning, middle, and end of the beer with the malt providing a solid backbone for a wave of flavor that will make you want to go back for seconds.  Enjoy.

Beer Description: The Leaders of Boy Scout Troop 230 were hard working men of the highest character.  Long nights of driving the Scouts too and from Camps, planning, hiking, setting up tents and handling the unruly youngsters, one must imagine they were longing for a nice, dark beer to relax from their work.  From climbing the tallest mountains this side of the Mississippi to long days of climbing and hiking, this Brown ale, brewed with Sumatra Coffee and Damarra sugar is meant to reward the drinker with a nice, relaxing dark beer to tell stories over at the bar after a long trip.

Interesting fact about you:Eagle Brewing Collective is run by two long time friends and adamant dark beer enthusiasts.  Jason and Dan met in Elementary school where Jason recruited Dan into Boy Scout Troop 230.  After 10 years of adventurous hikes, white water rafting and exploration the two reunited in Philadelphia at Temple University.  
    Throughout history beer has been the drink of hearty comrades.  A reward for a hard days work, a testament to friendship.  The dark beers brewed by EBC are meant to reward drinkers from a hard days work.
