New Channel Five reports that the law, which passed in 2014 and was revised in 2016, went into effect on the first of the year. Previously, the alcohol content on beer was capped at 6.2% if sold in grocery and convenience stores. Breweries were able to sell beer at a higher percentage, but only in their tasting rooms and it required a liquor license.
To many brewers, the alcohol cap was restrictive, stifling creativity and keeping them from using some products in their beers. Now, with the loosened regulations, breweries have begun releasing new products, with companies such as Yazoo Brew having already been in talks with major grocery outlets before the law went into effect.
